The next step in Archie’s health care was to do a blood test looking for a couple of viruses that we see in cats. He was a very good boy for his blood draw and, thankfully, the tests were negative!
What does that mean?
These are both infections that can be present in the cat’s body for a long time (years, even) before there is any noticeable problem. They also can be passed to other cats, so we want to make sure we know whether a cat is positive, as they could be a risk to other cats in the household or outdoors. We are pleased to report that Archie tested negative, but we will repeat the tests in about 3 months to make sure he doesn’t post a risk to other cats when he gets to his forever home.
We will continue Archie’s kitten care, following the recommendations of Canada’s cat specialists.
