May is the start of heartworm and flea season in the great white north. So, we’ll talk about parasites.
The subject matter for May is going to be internal parasites including heartworm, roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm and other delightful little creatures.
The key thing to think about internal parasites is that they are not visible to us. A cat or dog carrying intestinal worms does not usually pass anything visible in his stool.
We will talk about where your pets may pick up infections with these internal parasites, what abnormal signs you may see, and what problems can result.
Also, we will cover prevention, testing and treatment for internal parasites.
We will also discuss the risk to humans of these parasites carried by some of our closest companions.
How about indoor cats? Newborn puppies or kittens? At risk, and we’ll discuss why.
Any other questions? Leave a comment or email me and I’ll do my best to answer them all.
Don’t forget to start your heartworm prevention as recommended by your veterinarian.
